The 308 is marginally larger than the 307, being longer and wider, with a wider track for a bigger footprint to aid the on-road stability. Inside, it has decent head and legroom, and comfortable seats.

Underneath it was similar to its predecessor, with MacPherson Strut front suspension and torsion beams at the rear.

THE RIDE
The suspension absorbs bumps on corrugated roads with minimal noise intrusion into the cabin, and handles winding country roads with ease. The steering is well weighted with a firm, consistent direct feel that is maintained in varying road conditions.

Features include dual climate controlled air-conditioning, cruise control, chilled glovebox, trip computer, power front windows and MP3 connection, front and rear fog lights, rear parking sensors, auto headlights and more. It also comes with a full-sized spare wheel.

UNDER THE PUMP

Fuel economy was a strong point of the 308, with the small petrol engine using only 7.7 L/100 km.

SAFETY

Five stars was the best stamp available to carmakers from ANCAP and the 308 received it. It was fully equipped with front, head and side airbags, there were ABS brakes, and on all models but the base XS there was also electronic stability control.
